Rules of the Game

The official rules of BlitzWar

Start a new game or join a game waiting for additional players to start. Choose your color among the ones available and get ready to fight. The war is coming!

Set up yourself how long you want to play right before selecting the colour of your tanks. But remember: you can’t change the duration once the game has started.

From 3 to 5 players are allowed in a match. Your friend doesn’t show up? No worries, you can select one or more Artificial Intelligence (AI) players to reach the number of participants you want. Ready to beat the machine?!

To start playing there must be at least 3 players. Are you alone? No problem, wait for players who will join you or add at least 2 AI players.

Yes, we play for fun, but also to win, right?!

The number of points provided by a state equals the number of territories that border with it. This makes sense: states with more borders can be attacked by more sides and are more difficult to defend!

The war is yet to come. In the initial phase you will only have to place tanks: focus on your goal and plan the best strategy to reach it (but always keep an eye on the moves of other players). As soon as you finish to place your tanks you can start to attack other players.

The player who gets the highest score at the end of the game wins! The other players are ranked according to their scores.

Each player gets randomly assigned some territories at the beginning of the game. To get started, you have few rounds to place a number of additional tanks in your territories, 3 at the time. Focus on your objective and plan the best strategy to reach it (but always keep an eye on the moves of your enemies). When you are done placing your tanks, wait for your turn to start attacking other players.

No need to count how many, the program will tell you when to place them and how many. Time saved to think about strategy... what a relief!

At the beginning of the turn, deploy your tanks. Divide the number of territories you owe by 3 and take the entire part: that’s the number of tanks you place. Moreover, for each continent you owe, you can deploy additional tanks according to the schema on the bottom of the map (e.g. Africa: +3)

Look at your states and choose the one which will start the battle. Click on it and then on the enemy state you wish to attack. Click on a number to roll the dice: attack with the higher number at your disposal to have more chance to win. Cross your fingers and discover how many tanks you destroyed or lost, and if you conquered the state.

At any moment, you can decide whether to continue or stop the attack... but keep in mind that if you conquer at least one state you'll get a card.

If you conquer at least one territory during your turn you’ll get 1 card before passing turn, which might be very useful later on (see TRIS section below).

it is not mandatory to conquer a territory, balance risks and opportunities!

When the time is up, a lot more can still happen! After that, all players will continue to play till the end of the round (that is, until the last player is done with his/her turn). At the end of the following round, when the last player is done, the can game end with 11% probability (sum of 2 dices less or equal to 4). If the game continues, it can end with 11% probability after the end of each turn, untill the round is over. At that point the probability increases to 17% (sum of 2 dices less or equal to 5). Going forward, the probability that the game ends at the end of each turn increases at the end of every additional round, so that we have increasing probabilities:

  • 11% from the end of 2rd round after timer is over (≤ 4)

  • 17% from the end of round 3 (≤ 5)

  • 28% from the end of round 4 (≤ 6)

  • 42% from the end of round 5 (≤ 7)

  • ...

If a player conquers at least 3 territories during his/her turn, this ensures that the game will not end at the end of that turn.

In need of tanks for a massive attack?! A tris is what you want!

At the very beginning of your turn, before any attack, you can decide to play one (or more) tris to get additional tanks to deploy. Here are the valid combinations:

And.. there is more! For each territory in a tris that you own, you get +2 tanks!

You need 3 cards, so you may have the opportunity to use a tris after at least 3 rounds, if you planned your strategy well... or if you got lucky!

Tris can really change the game, so keep track of your enemies' cards, reported in the top-right on the screen.

The nuclear bomb is an extremely powerful weapon. When you are ready to drop it, select the card and confirm with the red button. Once the bomb is activated, select the attacker state A and the target B to start the great attack. For all dice rolled attacking from A to B, you will win also on ties!

You have only one nuclear bomb per game, so... use it at the right time!

if you have a huge number of tanks to defeat and you expect to roll the dice many times, it can make the difference!

Careful: If you attack from a different state or change your target, the nuclear bomb will be over.

Before the end of your turn, you can move tanks from a state to a neighbour, by clicking the "MOVE TANKS" button on the top right of the screen. Click on the origin state and then on the destination. Finally, select the number of tanks and click on "MOVE".

Careful: your turn will end automatically after the transfer! Unless you are moving tanks to a state you just conquered, starting from the attacker state. In this case, you can continue making other attacks or an additional transfer.

If you completely destroy one of your enemies, you will immediately get all of his/her cards.
